San Diego Solar Installations – How Large Is Too Large?
At Sunline Energy, one of the most common questions we receive is “how large a solar installation do I need?”

In only makes sense that potential customers would be curious:

  • On the one hand, you want enough solar capacity to handle all of your electricity requirements.
  • On the other hand, you don’t want to pay more money than you have to.

But our general attitude regarding San Diego solar installations is – “go big.”

This isn’t simply a self-serving recommendation that brings us more money.  There are compelling reasons why you should consider installing a larger-than-normal solar photovoltaic (PV) system on your residential or commercial property.

Let’s review.

1.  San Diego Solar Installations Pay for Themselves – Quickly

No matter what size your installation is – and no matter how much it costs – your solar investment pays for itself.

Average payback periods are 4 to 6 years.  But as utility companies continue raising their rates, the payback periods will actually become shorter.

So even if you go way over budget, you’re pretty much guaranteed to recoup all costs relatively quickly.  Thereafter, your panels create clean and free electricity for the next several decades.

2.  San Diego Solar Installations Result in Negative Utility Bills

San Diego currently offers net metering in which excess electricity from your panels result in energy credits from the local utility.

If you produce more energy than you consume, you actually receive a negative electricity bill at the end of the year.

Imagine living in a world where SDG&E owes you.  For us (and for a growing number of San Diego homes and businesses) this reversal is priceless.

It’s worth noting that net metering may not be around forever – at least not in its current form.  San Diego’s utility companies are fighting to remove or reduce this incentive.  And solar stakeholders (including Sunline Energy) are fighting back.

3.  San Diego Solar Installations Are Great for the Environment

A large installation isn’t simply good for your pocketbook.  It’s also great for the environment.

We’ve covered the ecological benefits before in a previous article – but suffice to say that the more panels you put up on your roof, the greater your investment in the planet’s future.

Go Large – Save Big – Stay Green

How large an installation you purchase is ultimately up to you.  And when you request a free solar quote from us, we’ll give you the most objective analysis we can – with zero salesmanship.  We won’t push you into financing a solar installation that you can’t afford.

But, given the financial and environmental benefits of solar – and given that “solar installation cost” becomes increasingly irrelevant over time, it makes a lot of sense to go big.
